
Background
Richard Randolph grew up in North Carolina. His father was a United Methodist minister and his mother was a school teacher. As a youth, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts. In 1983, Richard married LaGreer Hoover, and they have two children, Justice and Eden.
Richard received his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Duke University in North Carolina. While at Duke, Richard earned varsity letters in Cross-country and Track. He was also involved in student government, serving terms as a Senator in the student legislature and as Attorney General, responsible for overseeing elections.

In addition, he also served on the specially constituted committee to revise and re-write the Duke Student Government Constitution. Following graduation from Duke in 1978, Richard earned a Masters of Divinity degree (1982) and a Masters of Arts in “International and Developmental Economics”(1981), both from Yale University in Connecticut.
